About Odor
EVA foam (ethylene vinyl acetate) is a rubbery, soft material. t's safe and non-toxic, when you open the package it may have a sliaht iritating odor, make sure you put the sheet in a ventilated place to dissipate the odorand unfold the sheet for later installatlon.
Notes
- Roling it in a box is a safe and most cost-effective way for transportation. The roling pressure may resultin slight separation of the backing paper from the foam at both ends. Please cut off a litle bit of the end section ifneeded. ikewise, the unroling process will inevitably result in creasing of the adhesive backing paperAs long as the glue and foam do not detach, the adhesion will not be affected.
- Lay the materials out upside down, press it down with a suitable weight to spread it out.
- Eva foam has memory. lf it is frequently scratched by dog/cat claws, it willeave a mark. Do not place fumiture on the sheets.
- The adhesive backing adheres primarily to flat metal and fiberglass surfaces. For some uneven or textured surfaces, such as wood floors and plywood decks, it is recommended to use marine polyurethane qlue to enhance adhesion.
- Air Bubbles: it may happen during installing, using safety pin, poke a small hole in the air bubble and gentlyrub out the air while re adhering raised pad to the surface.
Before You Begin
- Inventory the sheets to ensure you have allyou need to get the job done and that there is no damage in transit or color diferences. Get in touch with customer support if you have any problems.
- If your deck have any bumps, textures, or non-skid paint coating, be sure to use marine polyurethane glue for installation.
- Spray adhesive is not the ideal option for this type of surface, as air or moisture can get between the deck's concave side andthe backing and cause it to peel off.
- For wood decks, be sure to use epoxy coating to filgaps. Epoxy or polyurethane is ideal for sealing wooden surfaces for adurable, long-lasting finish.
Tools for your reference
- Scouring pad: Wash the floor cleanly, get rid of any dirt.
- Towel: Clean the surface and wipe away any residue.
- Chemical cleaners (isopropyl alcohol or acetone) : Used for final surface preparation prior to installation.
- Utility knife, scissors: Use of sharp blades, trim the template material and EVA boat decking sheet to size.
- Tape measure, pencil: To mark the area you want to cut on your sheet before start cutting it.
- Ruler: To help you draw straight lines.
- Safety pin: Used to remove air bubbles that may occur during installation.
- Template material (optional) : It is recommended to use clear Mylar stencil sheet for creating a pattern before cutting. It allows you to measure the area where you'd like to cover and figure out how to trim the EVA foam boat decking. Then you can easily cut the EVA boat decking sheet to fit your boat shape and reduce more offcuts.
- Marking tape (optional) : Tape down the template so it does not move.
Pre-prep the surface
- Remove the old carpet if it has one.
- Wash the floor cleanly, get rid of any dirt. Use organic solvent (acetone or alcohol) to clean off the surface, the deck must be clean and free of grease, dust and other contaminants.
- Dry off the surface with a towel, then wipe down the floor with chemical cleaning, to entire boat.
- Be sure to dry off the surfaces before sticking it down. Any moisture may weaken the adhesion.
Measurement and cutting
Decide what kind of decking style you want. Take measurements and cut.
Method 1: Measure the area where you'll be instaling the decking. Draw out the sheet with measurements on the template. Or just marking on the surface of the EVA foam as long as you make your measurements and planning.
Use a ruler or the template to cut the line straight down.
Method 2: place the EVA foam boat floor piece on top of the boat and use a Utilty knife to cut out pieces to line up with the hatch and hinges on the floor. Cut out the hinge seams.
NOTE: The knife may damage the surface of your boat, be careful not to cut too hard or too deep.
Installation
- Before instaling, make sure that each piece has the same brush pattern and is oriented the same direction throughout the boat, lf you find that the teak pattern is not aligned or does not match or that another sheet of the same color has a different shade of color, please rotate the sheet 180 degrees to make it symmetrical.
- With the EVA deck pad in place, peel the backing down appx, 2” across the entire piece and crease the paper (this helps hold the exposed adhesive above the surface when ensuring piece is still properly aligned).
- Lightly tack the exposed adhesive down. Do not reposition the adhesive once you have stuck it on. Avoid laying it on where there's a weld or a screw or a fitting gap, to prevent creating air pockets it may cause it to peel.
- Position yourself directly in front or behind the piece. slowly remove the adhesive backing while applying light downward pressure to the pad and constantly evaluating the alignment.
- Continue this process until the backing is fully removed and the pad is in place.
- To achieve maximum adhesion, use a roller to apply pressure to the outside ofthe materials and then roll the entire piece of material inward.
- Repeat above steps for remaining pads. Wait 24 hours for the glue to stick down before using.
Maintenance
When not in use, cover the EVA foam flooring to lessen its exposure to direct sunlight to extend its lifespan.
- if there's fish blood or spill on the EVA foam boat flooring, it's recommended to wash and clean it as soon as possible. Once the stain is dry, it is not easy to wash off.
- Not recommend to put it underneath the fuel tanks at the back, because petrol will destroy the EVA foam. it may turns britle and peel up.
- If peeling occurs, please clean the surface well, and re-adhere the deck with additional glue, such as 3M spray adhesive, polyurethane glue.
